Bismillah Hir Rahman Nir Raheem
57. When the son of Mary is held up
as an example, behold, thy people will raise a clamour thereat (in ridicule)!
58.And they say "Are our gods best or he?"
This they set forth to thee, only by way
of disutation: yea, they are a contentious people.
59. He was no more than
a servant: We granted our favour to him,
and We made himan example to the Children of Israel
60. And if it were Our will,
We could make angels from amongst you, succeeding each other on earth
61. And (Jesus) shall be a sign
(for the coming of) The Hour (of judgement)
Therefore have no doubt about the Hour but
follow ye me; This is a straight way
62 Let not the evil one hinder you: for his to you an enemy avowed.
63: When Jesus came with clear sighs he said
"Now have I come to you with wisdom and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute.
Therefore fear God and obey me.
64. "For God is my Lord and your Lord; so worship ye Him: this is a straight way
65. But the sects from among themselves fell into disagreement:
then woe to the wrong-doers from the penalty of a grievous day!
66. Do they only wait for the Hour - that it should come on them all of a sudden, while they percieve not?
67. Friends on that day will be foes, one to another - except the righteous.

ReplyDelete"But the sects from among themselves fell into disagreement"
ReplyDeleteThat eventually happened in Islam as well. There is actually a sub-sect of Shias who think Imam Ali was God incarnate. Most Shias shriek out in horror at them. The Ismailis, Wahabis, Salafis, Sufis, Deobandis, Ahmadis ... the list is never-ending.
I wonder though what are the "clear signs" (63)?
Achelois: I wonder that too. I suppose it means the Book and the prophets?
ReplyDelete(That eventually happened in Islam as well).
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that the Prophet himself predicted that muslims will divide into 73 sects:
"My community will divide into 73 sects. All will be in Hell, except one. The one me and my companions are on today (that's like more than 90% of muslims today)".
In another hadith of the Prophet he drew a straight line in the dirt with a stick. He said: "This is the straight path to Allah [meaning the Way of Islam]." Then he drew angles right and left off of the straight line and said: "These are the deviant groups (or sects of Islam) and each one has a devil calling to it".
He also mentioned that there would always be a main body of muslims who would be on the straight path until the Last Day.
Keep in mind, also, that the word "sect" in Islam is slightly differant than other religions.
The basic elements of Islam that makes one a muslim is the shahada: to beilive that there is no God but God and that Mouhammad is his slave and last messenger (the other four pillars of Islam are equally important too).
Anyone who denies any of the fundemantel five pillars of Islam or deviated from them are considered "sects".
So the sub-group of Shias who think Imam Ali was God incarnate are called a "sect"(and they're not even considered muslims to begin with).
The group who beilive that regular prayars are not important are a "sect" also.
And so on.
So the BASIC elements of the Islamic faith is crystal clear, therefore it will be easy to point out which gruops of muslims are considered "sects".
But in Christianity (for example), the strory was differant. The BASIC elements of the christian faith (The nature of God or Jesus, and the trinity) was exteremly debatable and unagreeded upon for many centuries(and still is today).
Anon: Thank you for the info. I think that is what Anne meant as well. Its quite fascinating that it still holds true today.
ReplyDeleteYes the debate goes on with Christians. Its the Trinitarian viewpoint vs the Unitarian viewpoint. But here in America it seems we mostly have Agnostics. I wish someone would do a poll on that! That would be interesting to see; how many Americans are actually agnostic......
Or miracles? Clear signs are miracles?
ReplyDeleteMiracles totally works
