Does anyone know a website where I might find the 5 daily prayers with english translation and transliteration of the Arabic? I would like to start learning the prayers, but I do not just want to choose a website. I would rather someone recommend one to me so that I know the information is correct.
I am having a lot of trouble learning to pray. The book I have is so confusing, and all the "prayer words" are in Arabic so I don't have any idea when you move from one position to another because I can't read the words. Help! I'm going to need one of the sisters at the school to teach me after all. Maybe Sister A or Sister F can help me.
Any suggestions are more than welcome. I'd like to at least learn the words in english so I can start saying the prayers much like one says Du'a. Then I can move into actually doing the 5 prayers. And I need to make a cheat sheet that tells me when to change position etc so I can practice when I'm at school.
Thanks in advance!

It gives the transliteration of the Arabic, the prayer positions, the translations of the meanings in English, and the sunnahs/hadiths relating to the prayers. I would also recommend asking the sisters at your school for help; it's much clearer to actually see how other people do it.
Note: the transliteration uses the HIndi/Urdu way of pronouncing a certain sound. In this transliteration you will see words with the letter "z", like "A'uzubillahi" or "Qul a'uzubi". In Arabic they are pronounced "dh", like "A'udhubillahi" or "Qul a'udhu". You may have heard this in other words; e.g. Islamically slaughtered meat is pronounced both "zabiha" and "dhabiha", and ablution is "wuzu" or "wudhu". In order to remain true to the actual Arabic pronunciation, try and substitute the "dh" sound where you see a "z" in this transliteration. (Note: Arabic does have a "z" sound, so you can't always replace "dh" with "z", but in this case you can). Hope this isn't too confusing.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry too much about getting everything absolutely perfect. You'll have plenty of time to practice (five times every day!), and in a relatively short amount of time it will be second nature, Insha'Allah.
Go to www.ihic.org.au and click on "Prayer" in the sidebar. It has a great one for beginners (complete with pictures, translation + transliteration) that I used to learn.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteI used this one. It has two different tutorials. One for basic and one with all the sunnah actions so you don't have to feel overwhelmed having every single detail from the beginning. I still pray the "basic" way.
