If it disagrees with the Qur'an, then it may prove to be false. The Qur'an comes first.
Yet you may have to become OK with some things you do not agree with. If these "things" are major parts of the religion, then you might have a problem. If not, then there is room to work.
No religion is perfect and in the end you have to find your own way.
*nods* Yep, you're right. Religion is a personal path, and you have to find what makes you happy. People are always going to disagree about things, whether they're the same religion or not. : I
ReplyDeleteFor me, the real essence of the Bible is Jesus and the Gospels. Everything else is important, but much of the Old Testament doesn't carry over for me, other than the ten commandments. That's why the Christian faith is so simple for me to follow (as best I can).
You just said the same thing using Christian terms :) I love that, thats why all 3 can be correct :) YAY for having choices!
ReplyDeleteSalam alaykum Sis,
ReplyDeleteI also find it very frustrating if scholars disagree about religious issues... That gets me SO confused.
I agree with Heather, Religion is something personal, it's something between a person and Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
I have to disagree with your statement "no religion is perfect" as I believe the religion of Islam is perfect.
"This day I have perfected your Religion for you, completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your Religion."
[The holy Quran 5:3]
However, there have been/there are people who try to bring religious innovations into Islam and change our beautiful religion. We have to be careful.
The Prophet, sallalahu alaihi wa sallam, said:
"Beware of newly invented matters in religion, for every bid'ah is misguidance."
[Authenticated by al-Albanee in Sahih Ibn Majaah, no 42]
Ok this is what I mean by that: The religions may have been perfect as given to us by God but humans are imperfect and therefore mess things up. So the religions may be perfect, the ways they are practiced are not. Because in the hands of God I believe that all three religions were once perfect, but then we got ahold of them and well you know the rest :). So I guess it is the practice of religion that is imperfect, not the religion in its natural state.
ReplyDeleteYep, we cannot agree with everything that is out there! We can't even agree with everything that all scholars say, because there is disagreement between them on certain issues! Just recently I saw someone who seemed to say that she believed niqab was obligatory but that it was also a valid opinion that it is not obligatory (because some scholars see it that way). Well, I was thinking... If you believe it's obligatory, you have to believe the other scholars are wrong in their opinions, or else you don't believe it's obligatory!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, humans will mess up and make the religion imperfect. We have to try to find out what is right and what is wrong for ourselves.
Well said Candice. You have been trying to tell me this for awhile, it took a bit to sink in.
