Looking for a Christian Book

No You didn't read that wrong, I am in fact looking for a Christian book.

Why you ask would I want to do that? I've read the Bible a couple of times, got that down. But the thing is I've come to learn it can be a little difficult to explain Christianity to a muslim. My Love asked me today why Easter moves around every year but for the life of me I didn't know. We never question it, you just look on your calendar that year and boom there it is. Such a simple thing but I didn't know. I can remember full Bible passages but I can't tell you why Easter moves around. Guess that is why my mother says "You don't learn about Christianity from the Bible!".

So I want to read a book that is written for non-Christians to better understand things. Sadly, "101 Questions and Answers on Christianity" does not exist. "101 Q &A on The Bible" and "101 Q&A on the Church" do, however, exist. They could be quite entertaining.

Does anyone know of a book similar to "101 Q&A on Islam" but about Christianity? I would be especially interested in one like this about Catholicism.

Thanks!

  1. I just typed in "Christian books aimed towards non-believers?" into wiki answers and it has already been answered. There are a few books listed there that may be useful (along with some that say "let God show him the way!"

  2. Your love shouldn't have such a hard time with Easter. Ramadan and the Eids move around each year because they are based on the lunar calendar.

Easter has to do with the spring equinox and also Jewish Passover. It's the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox. Thus why it differs each year. It's not based on a set date on the Gregorian calendar, but on what I just said. :) Hope that helps.

Sorry I don't know any books about Catholicism since I am not one.

  3. Doesn't have to be Catholic, just Christian. I have trouble explaining things to him and well I need to brush up myself. I am well versed on the bible and history of the Church but I forget things like why Easter moves around sometimes. The basics are the same for all Christian religions, Catholic or Prodestant.

Any books are good ! LOL

  4. Oh his question about Easter specifically was "Why does Easter move but Christmas does not?"

  5. December 25th was just a date that was chosen to celebrate Christ's birth. We don't have any way of determining what day, actually He was born.

Easter's the more important of the two holidays, and we know when it happened, in relation to Passover, which is why it moves like Susanne described.

Hmm...Christianity for outsiders...not a clue. Even when I wasn't a Christian, I had had a Christian upbringing, so it wasn't really an issue...

  6. On consideration, The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel *might* be something along the lines of what you're looking for. I've yet to read it myself, but people keep recommending it to me, and I recall reading that the format was that he took the most common objections to Christianity and went through them point by point.

Also, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, but than, I think everyone should read that one. :)

  7. Lee Strobel is good, and I LOVE CS LEWIS. That was the book I couldnt remember THANKS! Screwtape Letters is awesome as well.

Yeah I know why Christmas doesnt move. I believe it was decided Jesus' birthday would have been in the summer around June due to when they would have gone to Bethlehem to register...I have to find that article again.
