Hallelujah

I was walking home from Sunday School yesterday in probably the worst heat wave we've had in awhile. I spent most of my walk fighting with my scarf as the tail kept threatening to wrap itself around my head. As I was walking I pasted a huge Korean church and outside of that church hobbled a little old Asian man with a cane. The little man raised up his hand and yelled "Hallelujah!" at me as we passed each other in opposite directions. I didn't know what to do so I waved back at him and smiled. In retrospect, I probably should have said "Hallelujah" back to him but I was too stunned. I'm use to "Salaam" but not "Hallelujah".

Any idea what that was about?

Note: "Hallelujah" means "Praise the Lord."

  1. Very happy little old man? :)

I have no idea why anybody'd go around shouting hallelujah at random people. Though you can't argue with the sentiment...

  2. Maybe he just felt like praising ALLAH. :)

  3. Amber: It was pretty funny. I was all "did I miss something? Are Christians suppose to do that and no one told me?" LOL My friend said he was trying to bring me to the Power of Jesus :) It was outside of a church after all.

    Anne: Maybe, maybe.

  4. For all I know, he normally greets people that way. I used to have a roommate - at university - who always answered the phone 'Praise the Lord!'

  6. hahahah how sweet! Sometimes worshipping God we are filled with joy and love and just awed and amazed by His grace! I know sometimes I feel I am overflowing and feel like proclaiming His greatness! I love it when you meet someone who does just that! Maybe he felt kinship with you, or maybe you just happened to be passing when He was feeling joyful!
Btw 'hallelujah' is close in meaning to subhanallah, "hallel" is the imperative form of "to praise" and "Jah" is from God, "Jahweh/Jehovah" - it is actually a command: Praise God!!
    Couldn't agree more!
