Awwww
I recently rung up a young boy and his mother. When he saw me at the register, wearing a hijab, he grinned broadly at me. As they were walking away afterwards, he tugged on his mom's sleeve and said,
Article: Mos(que) Hysteria
This I just can't understand. Thousands of people are up in arms because a group of Muslims want to build a center near the World Trade Center that promotes unity, understanding, and peace. And somehow, because it is attached to Islam, it doesn't belong there. Because apparently thousands of people think all Muslims are terrorists and don't belong within reach of WTC. They are trying to counteract and condemn the people who bombed the WTC but does anyone hear that? No. All they hear is Islam and Islam equals Terrorism. I am well aware of what happened on 9/11. I live here, I get it. But they want to fix what these people did and better the community. What is wrong with that?
This kind of thing I will never understand.

Islam's Soft Revolution
Islam's Soft Revolution
Three decades after Iran's upheaval established Islamic clerical rule for the first time in 14 centuries, a quieter and more profound revolution is transforming the Muslim world. Dalia Ziada is a part of it.
When Ziada was 8, her mother told her to don a white party dress for a surprise celebration. It turned out to be a painful circumcision. But Ziada decided to fight back. The young Egyptian spent years arguing with her father and uncles against the genital mutilation of her sister and cousins, a campaign she eventually developed into a wider movement. She now champions everything from freedom of speech to women's rights and political prisoners. To promote civil disobedience, Ziada last year translated into Arabic a comic-book history about Martin Luther King Jr. and distributed 2,000 copies from Morocco to Yemen. (See pictures of Islam's revolution.)

Covered Life Gives New Perspective
Here is an article about a girl who decided to wear hijab as an experiment. its really interesting what she learned.
I first noticed Spencer Wall in my religion and society class toward the end of last semester. She wasn’t particularly outspoken, but the shawl that covered her hair, neck and shoulders made her stand out in the large class.
I usually gave her nothing more than a completely unconscious glance. But when she revealed to the class the decision that she made on April 27, I suddenly became aware of the attention I gave her.
Wall, a 20-year-old sociology and English senior, decided to assume the characteristics and attire of a “typical” Muslim woman for a year starting in late April.....
